BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — Officials in Butte-Silver Bow County have released the name of a 37-year-old man who was killed in a triple shooting southwest of Whitehall.
Coroner Lee LaBreche said Thursday that Joe Powers of Whitehall died of a gunshot to the chest on Tuesday night.
The suspected shooter, Tony Dwade Sawyer, faces a deliberate homicide charge
along with two counts of attempted deliberate homicide because two other men, ages 23 and 38, also were shot.
Officers say the four men were traveling together when their car became stuck in a remote area. Once they freed the vehicle, the injured men said Sawyer started shooting and then fled.
Sawyer, a 48-year-old man from Texas, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His initial court appearance was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
